NIC Volleyball bows out of the NWAC Tournament

Friday afternoon in Tacoma, Wash. the North Idaho College Cardinals took on #1 ranked and undefeated Linn-Benton Community College of Albany, Oregon. In a close first set the Cardinals fell 21-25, but it was back and forth until the very end. The Roadrunners took it to the Cardinals in the second set with NIC never really getting into the game and suffering defeat,15-25. NIC seemed to rally in the third set staying close throughout, but the strong Linn-Benton team held the scrappy Cardinals off 21-25 to win the 3rd and final set of the match.

Later the same day the Cardinals had to come off that emotional loss to play Bellevue College in a "loser out" game. It looked like NIC would overcome the drop into the loser's bracket as they beat Bellevue 25-20 in the first set. The second set was all Bellevue as North Idaho dropped the set 10-25 and never got their confidence back losing the third set 10-15 (loser bracket matches were the best out of 3 sets) and dropping the match 1-2.

"We were in both matches, but we just couldn't come together and create a consistent rhythm. That synergy is essential for good volleyball. Today we didn't have it and with the small margin of error required for good results in the tournament it was something we couldn't overcome," commented Head Volleyball Coach Kelsey Stanley, "It's hard to end the season on a loss and not even make it to Saturday's (semi-finals) matches. We'll have to put in a lot work to try to get on top next year."
