Lady Cardinals advance to quarter-finals of the NWAC

Wednesday afternoon the North Idaho College Women's Soccer beat Green River CC decisively 3-0 to advance to the quarter final round where they'll play Clark College at Delta Park in Portland, Oregon at 7pm Saturday.

The match started anything but decisively as the Cardinals played with low energy until about 10 minutes left in the first half when they started to pick up their tempo. NIC ended the suspense only 4 minutes into the second half. Emily Aspden was able to take a hard shot from inside the penalty area, but the GRCC keeper made a good save parrying the ball away, but freshmen forward Monique Queen was waiting and put the rebound into goal. Ten minutes later it was Aspden again. This time Meg Lowery nodded a ball forward and Aspden stepped in front of a Gator defender and touched the ball into the penalty area where she calmly passed the into the left side of the goal putting it just out of the reach of the onrushing keeper. The final goal of the night include Lowery again on the assist. She received a pass on the right wing, beat a defender and hit a nice cross to Sterling Healy at the far post who smashed a volley into the back of the net.

The win sends the Cardinals back to the quarterfinals of the NWAC Conference Tournament. This year they'll face Clark College who the met earlier in the season and lost 0-2. The game was moved off the Clark College campus to Delta Park just across the Columbia River in Portland, Oregon for a 7 P.M. start time on Saturday.
