Cardinals Women's Soccer ends regular season with a tie

The North Idaho College's Women's Soccer team finished the regular season with a 1 - 1 tie against Wenatchee Valley College. It was the first time in the past 3 weeks the Cardinals actually played on a field they could make passes along the ground in every part of the field. Head Coach Dan Hogan said, "It's been very tough to train on our field with all the rain saturating our own field, making it unplayable. We've been unable to work moving the ball from one side to the other and it showed in the first half as we struggled to get into a good passing rhythm.

The second half started better. A little over 10 minutes into the second half sophomore midfielder, Aliea Son received a pass 40 yards from the endline on the right side of the field. She took a touch forward which committed the defense to her and then slipped a through ball to Meg Lowery, a sophomore forward from Coeur d'Alene, at the top of the penalty area to the left of goal. Lowery dribbled into the penalty area with a defender all over her, but was still able to get a hard shot off the found the right corner of the goal. Unfortunately for NIC, WVC forward, Brenna Whitney picked up a loose ball in the midfield and was able to race by the NIC defenders to score the equalizer just 10 minutes later.

"It was important to us as a team to get everyone in the game today. Not only was it good for me to see the amount improvement in our freshmen, it allowed us to rest our starters and prepare for our playoff game this Wednesday," commented Coach Hogan.

The Cardinals will play Green River CC on Wednesday at 4pm. The game will be played at Spokane Falls CC because Eisenwinter Field is unplayable after constant rain for the past few weeks.
