Cardinals drop game to Sasquatch

On Wednesday, the referee ruled that Eisenwinter Field was unplayable so that match was rescheduled for Thursday at 4pm in Spokane.  As the men waited out their postponement, Treasure Valley defeated Wenatchee, and Walla Walla defeated Columbia Basin.  As a result, the Cardinals went into Thursday’s match having clinched the playoffs.  After defending well for most of the first half, NIC gave up two goals just ahead of halftime.  Chase Reidt and Jonathan Cortez scored in the 35th and 42nd minutes.  Breno Rocha opened the scored in the second half to make it 3-0.  The Cardinals earned a free kick in the 65th, and Alec Maldonado flicked Jared Napoles’s free kick into the net to get one back.  Eric Sanchez-Flores scored again for Spokane to make the final 4-1.

The Cardinals play Wenatchee Valley on Saturday as host.  The time and place will be determined based on weather forecasts sometime Friday.  A Cardinal win combined with a Spokane win over Walla Walla would clinch second for NIC.
