Swapp wins NWAC Individual Title

The Cardinal Men’s Golf Team finished just four strokes out of first place as the Northwest Athletic Conference concluded on Monday at the Walla Walla Country Club.  The men were in a solid position after the first day and were in second place, two shots back, of leader Bellevue College. Freshman Braydon Swapp led the Cardinals with a first round 66 which included 5 straight birdies on the back 9.  “The guys didn’t get off to a great start on the second day,” coach Russell Grove said, “But coming down the stretch we were still right there.  If we could have finished off the last 3 or 4 holes solid we would have won.  I think some of the guys lacked experience being in that pressure situation coming down the stretch and it’s a learning experience for them.” The Cardinals finished with at two day total of 590, which put them fourth, four strokes back of Walla Walla and Spokane at 586.  Spokane ended up winning the sudden death playoff. Swapp battled on the second day to shoot 73 which put him first individually, one stroke ahead of Lars Malinen.
